Everything You Need To Know At 50+: Ageing is inevitable. How you age is up to you.

Ageing is inevitable. How you age is up to you.
With advances in medical treatment people are living longer than ever before. How those extra years are experienced will depend largely on the choices we make throughout our lives.
That's the message behind a new book by Norfolk authors Dan and Anna Skipper,
Everything You Need to Know at 50+.
The book brings together practical advice, expert insights and real-life experiences to help people understand the factors that influence health, wellbeing and independence as they age. Contributors include Dr Diana Hodgins MBE, the Founder and CEO of Dynamic Metrics Ltd.
Dan Skipper, said:
"We hope this book encourages people to think differently about ageing and how small changes in mid-life can create a good foundation for later life. We wanted to highlight topics that don't always get the attention they deserve – things like sleep, hydration, social connection and housing. These all play a huge role in our health and wellbeing, and they're often things we can positively influence ourselves."
The book comes at a time when the UK faces increasing challenges associated with an
ageing population. Around 1.5 million people are living with moderate or severe frailty, and 41% of older adults suffering from at least one long-term condition, there is growing pressure on health and social care services.
Drawing on their background in health and charity sectors, the authors argue that many of the factors that contribute to poor health in later life can be reduced through greater awareness, preventative healthcare and healthier habits developed earlier in life.
Dr Diana Hodgins believes that educating people on what will help them enjoy a healthy lifestyle, is key. She believes that people don’t want to live in poor health and can take responsibility for their own health with the right knowledge. This book provides this in an easy to understand format.
The book covers topics including nutrition, hydration, hearing and vision, loneliness, mental health, menopause, falls prevention, medication management, finances and end of life.
Anna added:
"As we're living longer, understanding how to age well should become a social norm. We need to talk more openly about later life with our partners, families and friends. Not just the practical issues like pensions, wills and powers of attorney, but also the opportunities that later life brings and how we can give ourselves the best chance of remaining healthy, active and independent for as long as possible."
